Development of Vocational Education Infrastructure in Syunik

Yesterday, the R2D Syunik team, accompanied by Armеnuhi Poghosyan, Head of Department for Preliminary and Vocational Education and Training from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (MESCS), and Hrachya Zakoyan, Acting Rector of the Armenian National Agrarian University, visited Syunik to choose the proposed construction sites for the vocational colleges after the planned merging of the existing vocational high colleges. This visit marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance vocational education in the Syunik province.

As part of the Resilient Syunik Program (RESYP), which is a framework loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for public sector investment to strengthen resilience of Syunik province with targeted interventions, the Ministry has initiated the consolidation of four vocational schools — two in Sisian and two in Kapan — into two modern institutions, with one located in each town.
This restructuring is designed to improve the quality and accessibility of vocational education in the region. The new schools are set to benefit from financing through the RESYP for the rehabilitation of existing facilities or the construction of new buildings. The RESYP aims to deliver targeted, small-scale investments in critical and social infrastructure to strengthen social cohesion, improve access to quality healthcare, enhance education services, and secure safe drinking water.

The R2D Syunik project plays a crucial role in this initiative by carrying out the assessment of the needs and preparing the preliminary technical documentation required for the rehabilitation and construction works. This includes conducting a comprehensive analysis of the current educational capacities of the schools involved, alongside an assessment of their future infrastructure needs. The outcomes of these analyses will serve as a foundation for developing the necessary technical documentation to support the further successful implementation of the project.

As part of the Resilient Syunik Program (RESYP), the Ministry is merging four vocational schools in Sisian and Kapan into two modern institutions, one in each city.

The R2D Syunik project supports this effort by assessing current capacities, identifying infrastructure needs, and preparing the technical documentation for rehabilitation and construction works.
