Solar PV Systems Installed in Sisian and Brnakot

Today we mark the successful completion of the first infrastructure project under Component 2 of the R2D Syunik project, co-funded by the European Union and the Austrian Development Cooperation. This project marks a significant step towards energy sustainability and cost efficiency, benefiting the municipality and its residents.

Project Highlights:
The installation of two 45-kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on recently renovated roofs in Sisian and Brnakot aims to:

  • Generate 140,000 kWh of electricity annually.
  • Save approximately 6 million AMD per year, reducing the municipality\\\'s electricity costs by 15%.
  • Contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing dependence on non-renewable energy sources and lowering carbon emissions.

Key Benefits:

  • Cost Savings: The project alleviates a heavy financial burden, enabling the municipality to allocate more resources to essential public services and development initiatives.
  • Improved Quality of Life: Renewable energy adoption promotes cleaner air and better health outcomes, benefiting all 32,274 residents of the Sisian community.
  • Sustainability: By leveraging modern solar technology, the infrastructure project aligns with global environmental goals and serves as a model for other communities.

The solar PV systems will support key public facilities across the Sisian community, including kindergartens, street lighting, art and sports schools, libraries, cultural centers, and municipal services in Sisian and 35 surrounding settlements.

The Sisian Infrastructure Project addresses several critical issues:

  1. High Electricity Costs: Annual municipal electricity expenditures of AMD 42 million have been a significant budgetary challenge.
  2. Dependence on Fossil Fuels: Transitioning to solar energy reduces reliance on polluting, non-renewable sources.
  3. Community Well-being: Cleaner energy fosters healthier living conditions and long-term sustainability.

A similar infrastructure project is already underway in the Tegh community, further expanding the impact of the R2D Syunik project.
