Contracts Signed for Community Infrastructure and Sustainable Business Development

Two significant contracts were signed at the Syunik Governor's Office under the R2D Syunik project’s public and private sector components.

The first contract involves the Meghri Municipality, the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), and the winning contractor for the construction of a vital component of the external potable water supply system in Lehvaz, Meghri community. The total budget of the project is 40.6 million AMD (~96 thousand euros).

This community infrastructure project addresses a long-standing need in the Lehvaz settlement: the availability of clean, safe, and sustainable drinking water. The works will include the construction of a water intake, chlorination station,  two 50-cub.m Daily Regulation Reservoirs (DRRs) and valve house, enabling gravity-fed water distribution to near 700 residents and key community facilities such as a school, kindergarten, health center, and cultural center.

At the same time, a second contract was signed under business component of the R2D Syunik project, which focuses on private sector development. This agreement was signed with the WINNET Goris Development Foundation, the project’s second strategic partner.

Through this partnership, WINNET will implement the “Women in Business: Building Economic Growth in Syunik” project, a 26-month intervention that aims to economically empower women, youth, and forcibly displaced persons in Syunik. The project will support local women-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), promote gender equality, and foster climate-resilient, inclusive economic development.

By providing entrepreneurship training to women, facilitating mentorship and technical consultation for 40 MSMEs, and awarding grants, the project aims to create at least 50 new jobs and increase income and competitiveness for supported businesses, as well as support the creation of at least 25 women-led startups. It also introduces sustainability-focused practices in agricultural processing, manufacturing and production, and tourism - key sectors for Syunik’s economic resilience.

Both contracts signed today are part of a shared commitment to strengthening infrastructure and building inclusive, thriving local economies in Syunik.

R2D Syunik project is co-funded by the European Union and the Austrian Development Cooperation, implemented by the Austrian Development Cooperation.
